Lohman Excavation is seeking an experienced Civil Construction Estimator in the Spokane, WA, and Coeur D Alene, ID areas. This is mostly a remote position. Lohman is aggressively pursuing Federal Forestry Contracts, Drilling Contracts in the Utility Sector, and State/Federal Civil projects in the Northwest, Montana, and California. Lohman Excavation is growing, and we are seeking energetic staff to pursue additional opportunities.
Experience and proficiency in the following major areas:
- Experienced in Federal Forestry Contracts, Utility Sector and State/Federal Civil projects
- Extensive experience with Estimating and Scheduling Software
- Skilled in preparation of proposals for new business and presentations to clients
- Knowledgeable of construction safety and current federal and OSHA requirements
- Advanced understanding of engineering plans and specifications
- Good knowledge of civil engineering construction techniques
- Experienced in earthwork, utilities, drilling, and structural concrete projects
- Excellent oral & written and communication skills
- Advanced PC skills
Duties and Responsibilities
- Proficient in the use of unit cost modeling tools and providing improvement initiatives
- Manage the delivery of preconstruction services for projects, provide input, coordination, and problem-solving at all stages of construction
- Participate in the preparation of proposals for new business and presentations to clients
- Meet with the client to establish the needs, requirements, and constraints of the project
- Prepare work to be estimated by gathering construction documents, specifications, and related documents
- Identify and assemble the required bid package documents in advance of bid due dates
- Develop accurate estimates and schedules utilizing available tools, industry, and estimating best practices
- Estimate Civil projects that include earthwork, utilities, drilling, and structural concrete
- Produce accurate and comprehensive estimates for large or complex projects or programs in a timely and efficient manner
- Coordinate the performance of pricing structure development and application to takeoffs, derived quantities, quantity assumption, and cost allowances
- Confer with project personnel to provide technical advice and to resolve any problems
- Control and manage the estimating process
- Facilitate go or no go decisions for upcoming projects
- Resolve issues with plans and specifications
- Participate in post-bid revisions, meetings, and negotiations
Qualifications/ Licenses
- Preferred bachelor’s or college degree in one or more of the following fields: Construction Management, Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction, Business/Administration
- 10 years of experience as a civil cost estimator/quantity surveyor/cost manager
- A track record of winning long term, profitable frameworks targeted individual schemes
- Must develop an exceptional rapport with suppliers and subcontractors in the area
- Field experience is a big plus
- The ability to establish and maintain excellent relationships with both internal and external clients
- Excellent attention to detail, proactive, forward-thinking with the ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently and work to deadlines
